We the People

We the People is

Statement about the journey of Australian system of government:

  • A constitutional Monarchy.

  A responsible system of government.

The Commonwealth of Australia Act of 1900 created another British dominion along side the six colonial dominions already created.

Australia as a nation was not established as a republic or a democratic nation. There is not one word of democracy in the Australian constitution.

The History of attempting to find independence has only been an effort to further cut the line of ‘responsible’ government with Britain. In principle, that has been achieve.

But we are not a democracy, have no declaration that ‘we the people; do hereby declare and constitute this nation’, and no Bill of Rights.

A democracy based upon popular sovereignty (We the people) is by nature an independent sovereign country resting on the socio-political virtues of ‘Equality, Liberty, Life, Protection of Property and the opportunity to pursue personal and national Prosperity.

Democracy, expressed through it is by construction of a constitution, is founded on the principle of the separation of powers of government between three distinct, independent, yet interrelated, functional entities

– The Executive Government lead by an popularly elected Head, called a Governor-General or President

-The Legislature to craft, consider and pass legislation and lead by  Speakers or Presidents of the Chambers

The Supreme Court with appointments considered and reviewed by the Senate and appointed by the Governor-General..

All these issues need deliberation and discussion to progress Australia towards declaring Australia to be a democratic system of government based upon popular sovereignty.

It is time to consider Australia creating a democratic form of government based upon the principle of the separation of powers with an independently elected Executive Office, known as a Governor-General, or president, with fixed term national elections. The Parliament would return to being a legislative body and ‘governing’ the country would return to being the function of the Executive Officer.

We don’t need to change the flag or the name of the nation.

We need a democratic form of government based upon statues delineating popular determination, sovereignty and the values of the nation.
